Kick canker sores to the curb
Canker sores got you down? Here's your handy guide to getting your mouth back in tip-top shape:
Hydrogen peroxide: the antiseptic cure-all. This doesn't taste great, but it's a lot less abrasive than alcohol-based mouthwashes. Swish about a tablespoon around your mouth for 30 seconds, then spit into the sink.
Anbesol or Orajel: to numb and heal. This acts like a liquid bandage and provides a thin barrier to prevent further irritation. Although both products come with an applicator tip, it is more sanitary to apply the gel on a Q-Tip, then apply to affected area.
Sensodyne Pronamel toothpaste: to prevent future sores. My dentist told me that some toothpastes contain an ingredient that has been linked to canker sores. I used to have canker sores constantly, but since switching to Sensodyne, I haven't had one in years. Praise be.
